Dr. Johnny L. York founded Praise Assembly Christian Center, Inc. on Tuesday, November 5, 1991. The founding service was prayer held at the Holiday Inn North in Winston-Salem, NC with 40 people in attendance. The presence of the Holy Spirit was very strong and His sweet fragrance filled the room. His presence served as confirmation that this ministry was in God’s timing. Bible Study was held the next night at the hotel and 12 people came forward to become the initial members of this church. Praise the Lord!!!!!!
From the beginning, God has proven to be faithful to us in providing for every need of the ministry. This holds true to date. After only seven months in existence, the ministry miraculously acquired a 6500 square foot building, which we presently occupy. God granted us favor and we closed on this building on June 19, 1992. After fifteen months of services in the hotel, our first Sunday morning service was on January 17, 1993 at our current facility.
On February 27, 2007, the Lord blessed us to purchase 10.69 acres on Kernersville Road, Winston Salem. This will be the new location for our growing church.
Since the inception of our ministry, we believe in the power and promises of God. Our mission statement has three areas of importance:
1. Save the Lost
2. Church those without a church home
3. Present the Gospel in a simple way so that all will grow to know Jesus.
In 2001, Pastor York was ordained into the Macedonian Ministries, under the authority of Dr. John A Cherry, pastor of From the Heart Church Ministries in Temple Hills, Md.
Pastor York is a member of the Beta Gamma Optometric Honor Society and an honors graduate of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. There he received the Doctor of Optometry degree in 1982 and is currently licensed to practice in North Carolina.
The Lord has graciously blessed Pastor York and Praise Assembly Christian Center, Inc. with his beautiful wife Sister Angela York, our first lady. She is a woman of God, and a tremendous gift to Dr. York and to Praise Assembly Christian Center, Inc.
This is the Lord
